Calendar Alert: Next Year’s Top Planning Conferences

September 18, 2013

What industry conferences should the outgoing and curious financial advisor attend next year? Wonder no more, because Nerd’s Eye View’s annual Best Conferences list is out to shed light on the lineup for 2014.

As best overall conference, the blog names the Financial Planning Association’s FPA Experience, which takes place about a year from now in Seattle. (In fact, there’s probably still time to make it to the 2013 edition, Oct. 19–21 in Orlando, Fla.)

As top technology-focused gatherings, Nerd’s Eye View points to the American Institute of CPAs’ Advanced Personal Financial Planning Conference, set for Las Vegas in January, and Technology Tools for Today’s T3 Conference in February in Anaheim, Calif.

For advisors in search of investing insights, the blog suggests the Investment Management Consultants Association’s Annual Conference, scheduled to take place in Boston in May.

For advanced planners, meanwhile, Nerd’s Eye View recommends the FPA’s yearly Retreat, set for Miami in May.

On the practice-management front, the blog recommends that advisors stick with conferences hosted by their custody providers and broker-dealers. Custody shows include the 2014 incarnation of Schwab Impact and Pershing Insite. For advisors with broker-dealer ties, LPL’s Focus is a popular destination.

Finally, Nerd’s Eye View says the National Association of Personal Financial AdvisorsiConference stands out as the best “virtual” colloquy for advisors in sight.
