SAM DEL ROWE, REPORTER, FINANCIAL ADVISOR IQ: Hi, my name is Sam Del Rowe. I'm a reporter with Financial Advisor IQ, and I'm with Jesse Abercrombie, financial advisor and general partner at Edward Jones. How has the pandemic changed the role of the financial advisor?

JESSE ABERCROMBIE, FINANCIAL ADVISOR AND GENERAL PARTNER, EDWARD JONES: For decades in our industry, our financial advisors worked with clients to help them retire. And the definition of retirement was pretty simple. It was enjoying life after they retired. But there's some statistics out there, through an Age Wave study, that shows that most pre-retirees — about 55% — see their own retirement as actually a new chapter in life, rather than that time for just resting and relaxation like their parents were.

I remember the commercials back then. They were more so about, 'What are you going to do? Are you going to play golf? Are you going to sit on the beach?' That's not the new retirement. So it's definitely changing now. And those who work with a financial advisor tend to find that comfort in their knowledge and their experience.
