Lincoln Financial has unveiled two new commission-free annuity products for registered investment advisors.
The first, Lincoln Insured Income Advisory, is a single premium immediate annuity while the other, Lincoln Deferred Income Solutions Advisory, is a deferred income annuity.
The new products “are strong additions to our robust offering of commission-free, RIA-tailored annuity solutions, allowing fee-based advisors the ability to help clients protect their income as they head into retirement,” Tad Fifer, vice president and head of RIA annuity distribution at Lincoln Financial Distributors said in a press release.
“We are focused on offering a broad portfolio of solutions for RIAs who choose to include annuities as part of their clients’ retirement plans, and income annuities can be a good way to help secure life-long or period-certain cash flow with the potential to provide a higher income payout than other available options,” Fifer added.
The firm has been undertaking initiatives to work towards that RIA focus. In August, it announced it received a private letter ruling from the IRS that allowed for better tax treatment of advisory fees taken from non-qualified fee-based annuities. This ruling lets RIAs deduct client fees from the cash value of non-qualified annuities without triggering a taxable event for their clients.
According to the LIMRA Secure Retirement Institute's U.S. Individual Annuities Sales Survey, Lincoln Financial ranked fourth in the country in terms of total annuity sales for the first quarter of this year with annuity sales of $3.58 billion.
The Radnor, Pa.-based insurance company made news last month when it decided to suspend the sale of some fee-based annuity products from the state of New York after a new state rule went into effect. The rule mandates sellers of annuities keep their clients’ best interest in mind and maintain higher disclosures and training programs for those selling annuities. Lincoln tells FA-IQ that as of Sept. 30, Lincoln is again offering its advisory products in New York.
