The new tax code passed in late 2017 offers a big opportunity to independent financial advisors, including the potential for significant new tax breaks. For those who take advantage, the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act can provide a nice boost to their take-home, thanks to the way certain types of income are treated. However, the benefits depend on how advisors structure their practices.

During the webcast, Ryan Sheppard, a partner at the accounting firm Knight Rolleri Sheppard, reviewed the tax code changes and answered viewer questions about relative benefits of various corporate structures. Ken Hullings, the senior vice president of business development at LPL Financial, spoke about why these tax code changes may provide new opportunities for advisors to consider going independent. He also spoke about some of the resources LPL

Financial offers to so-called breakaway advisors.
